I try not to rant on my blog but today I encountered a brilliant piece of ‘jobworth’ attitude that I wanted to share. I took the kids swimming this afternoon at our local pool. At 3pm swimming lessons start and the deep end of the pool gets raised so the depth is 0.4M so little kids can learn to swim. They lane off half the pool so the public have one half and the learners have the other half.
The lifeguard asked me if my kids could swim a whole length.
‘Yes they can’ I relied, ‘but why are you asking? The ‘deep’ end is now 1 full meter shallower than the ‘shallow’ end where non-swimmers are allowed to go.’
‘We still have to follow procedure’ was the reply.
What procedure might that be? Does anyone have any idea?
