I’m leading worship in Clydebank on Sunday, and it’s Harvest. It’s an all age service and this is the first time I’ve led worship there.
Any thoughts? Ideas? HELP!!!
My past experiences of harvest services have been a little ‘unreal’. They tend to be jolly occasions when we sing songs about sewing and ploughing and generally thank God that we have lots of food. I don’t want to play that down because I am grateful that we have enough food but I’m thinking that Harvest should make some reference to how difficult life is for farmers just now, how difficult life is for millions of people around the world who don’t have enough.
I’d be happy to go at it in a sermon but it’s an all age service and that makes that message a little trickier. Or does it?

Not specifically an all-age one, but it might give you some ideas. It also has some references to the charity that was being supported by KHR that Sunday.

Christian Aid and various other aid aid organisations often publish Harvest material which specifically doesn’t focus on the ‘bounty’ type of theme and they’re often all age which might help!
I’m sure in some of the older CPAS type books they did for kids, there are some good interactive stories about Harvest.
There’s also FairTrade stuff…
Tear Fund probably have heaps online too…

Hi how did it all go in the end. We were also having a Harvest service yesterday.
I’m not sure. I think it’s really hard to do a ‘festival’ service with a congregation you don’t know that well. It seemed to go fine I think but I have no concept of what people were expecting so that makes answering your question hard. People said they enjoyed it so I’ll take them at their word. If anyone from Clydebank was there and wants to comment then I’d be delighted to hear your thoughts!
