what’s the story?

I’ve been at a team meeting for work this week.  On Wednesday we spent some time thinking about ‘story’ with Martin Payne from BRF.

Martin talked through the importance of story, illustrating with a couple of great stories about stories.

He made me think, not for the first time, that when I’m leading worship I should perhaps focus more on telling the story than trying to explain it.

Exposition is important.  But he reminded me that Jesus was much more into telling storys than giving answers. Perhaps we should to and resist our urge to explain away the mystery and ambiguity and variety of interpretation.

Imagination was important to Jesus, and should be to us.
