We jump ahead to Jesus’ trial this week on our journey through Holy Week, but in many ways the trial is secondary, at least for us this week.

Standing in the courtyard. Waiting. Trying to keep a low profile, but stay close enough to hear what’s going on.
Doesn’t he do what we all would do? To save our own skin?
No. I’m not with him.
Never met him.
I’m not one of his followers.

How many would have stood by Jesus ….we would all like to think we would but our own doubts, fears and human frailty would suggest few would have stood up like the scene from Spartacus in defense of their leader and all he stood for. Personally I would have eaten the chicken after two cockle-doodle-doos!
One of my favourite apocryphal stories is the guy who went into starbucks and said his name was Spartacus. When the barista shouted his name loads of people stood up and said “I am Spartacus!”.
