Solas 2011

Solas 2011 tickets now on sale – and you can bring your kids for free!

Solas 2011 tickets are on sale as of today at a special early-bird discount (available until the end of November). In response to your feedback from last year, we’ve simplified our pricing structure. We’re asking adults to pay a little bit more this year, so that we can subsidise tickets for children and young people, and in return, we’re scrapping the additional charge for camping. An early-bird adult weekend ticket is only £75 and you can bring children aged 0-11 years absolutely free. We’re offering a seriously reduced weekend youth ticket for those aged 12-17 years, at only £25 for the weekend.

We’ve done our sums and we reckon, when you include the savings on camping, that Solas 2011 will be cheaper for most families than it was last year.

And there you were, thinking we were just all off on our summer holidays – not us!  The team at Solas have been working hard behind the scenes over the last few months to bring you a new and improved service for Solas 2011 and we’ve even starting booking some top-quality contributors for next year’s festival. You can keep up to date with the planning – and find out how you can get involved – on our all-new website. New features include a gallery of photographs and a short film from last year’s festival, and, coming soon, a few special perks just for our Saints.

What next?

A big thanks to everyone who gave us feedback on Solas 2010; we were thrilled with the general response. One of the topics promoting a healthy diversity of opinion was the dates of the festival, and we’ve been all around the calendar looking for a weekend that suits absolutely everyone – without success. We’ve decided to stick with our original desire of celebrating Solas (inspired by the Gaelic for ‘light’) as close to the Summer Solstice as we can and the dates of Solas 2011 are now fixed as the 24th-26th June. As Monday 27th will see a return to old clothes and porridge for many of our festival community, we have taken the decision to close the festival in the early part of Sunday evening and we hope this will allow as many people as possible to share in the full programme.

The Solas Showcase Tour (coming to a living room near you?)

As an organisation, Solas is committed to promoting arts, faith and justice events right through the year. We’d like to be a focal point for a community which is actively engaging with these themes all across Scotland, but we’re starting small.

Last year we held two lovely showcase gigs in Glasgow in the run up to the festival and this year we’re asking the Solas community to invite some of our artists to come and perform in your living room. All you have to provide is a little hospitality – your living room and some nibbles – and a small audience (we recommend at least 20 people to really make an atmosphere). We’ll put you in touch with top quality artists who are willing to travel and we’ll help you promote the event to like-minded locals. We’re suggesting that you charge a tenner per ticket and donate the money back to Solas so that we can continue to support Scottish artists and run another fantastic festival next year. It’s a great opportunity to tell your friends and neighbours about Solas and it’ll be a very social evening. It doesn’t have to be a musical line-up – just get in touch with the office to discuss your idea for creating a little slice of Solas in your sitting room.
