David’s Facebook Update:

Before bed I thought I’d give a quick update of my marathon.

Miles 1-10 as planned with a nice even pace as usual, miles 11-26.2 ran with basically a wooden left leg – ideal!

Finished in 4:47, at least an hour over my goal time.

Disappointed about that but really enjoyed the whole experience. I’ll elaborate in an in-depth report on my blog. Thanks to all of for messages of support over the last couple of days.

We’re all incredibly proud of the effort David put in, both to get to the Marathon and even more to get round.

Well done David and thanks again to everyone who helped him raise £2,300 for Kidney Research UK.

The ballot for entry for next year opens on the 4th of May… Bookies have stopped taking bets on whether he’ll enter… he has a PB to beat! ;-)

David the trollFor David this Sunday means a birthday spent running the London Marathon in aid of Kidney Research UK.  He has raised an amazing £2,200 so far so thank you all for your incredibly generous donations.  You can still donate if you haven’t already.

David is travelling to London tomorrow and he’ll pay a visit to the Expo, a free running exhibition before lots of pasta and a good night’s sleep (hopefully).

Then it’s up early for a good stretch and off to the start.

You can track David’s progress on the Adidas Marathon Tracker using live data from his race chip.  His race number is 40904.

After the race he’ll be heading over to the Kidney Research UK reception where he’ll get a well earned massage and some food with the other Kidney Research runners.

Of course you can always watch out for him on TV on Sunday morning.  He’ll be wearing his purple and white Kidney Research vest with DAVID printed on the chest, but not the troll hair apparently!

Good luck David!

dave the trollNext Sunday, 25 April, my step-son David will spend his 22nd birthday doing something for other people, running the 26 and a bit miles of the London Marathon.

He is running in aid of Kidney Research UK and has to raise £1,500 to run.  At the moment he has 88% of his total.

Please sponsor David.

It would be such a shame for him to have trained for so long and endured a painful hamstring injury, all while trying to complete his Masters year of University, and then not to be able to run because he hasn’t reached his fundraising total.

Kidney diseases can affect people of any age

  • Of the 7,672 people on the national organ waiting list, 6,909 of them need a kidney
  • By contrast, only about 1,800 kidney transplants are carried out each year
  • Uncontrolled, or poorly controlled, high blood pressure can cause chronic kidney failure.  Yet worryingly, large numbers of people with high blood pressure have not been identified
  • Diabetes is the single largest cause of kidney failure.
  • More than two million people in the UK have diagnosed diabetes.
  • At least a million people are thought to have diabetes but are unaware of it.
  • Recent reports indicate that more children will develop diabetes due to obesity, which could add to this number
  • There are over 6,500 new cases of kidney cancer diagnosed each year and this figure seems to be rising.  The disease causes around 3,600 deaths each year
  • There are currently believed to be over 37,800 adult patients receiving Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) in the UK

David’s training for the London Marathon is going really well.

Last weekend he ran 20 miles.  To make the run a bit more interesting he ran past the three major stadiums in Glasgow, Celtic Park, Ibrox and Hampden… starting from Hamilton!

You can keep up to date with his progress and find out more about Kidney Research UK and his reasons for running on his blog or follow @bigpapi34 on Twitter.

He’s raised £503 already but needs your help to reach his target of £1,500.

You can sponsor him through the JustGiving link on his blog.  Don’t forget to Gift Aid your donation if you are a UK taxpayer!

DavidMy step-son David is running his first marathon this April in London.  He’s running in aid of kidney research and it would be brilliant if you could sponsor him.

David has set himself two targets: run the marathon in under 4 hours and raise over £1,500.

You can follow his training on his blog, Dave Online, and sponsor him via the blog too.  Remember to gift aid your donation if you are a UK tax payer!  He’s also on @bigpapi34 on Twitter

Tomorrow he’ll run nearly 18 miles, his longest training run yet.

You can find out more about Kidney Research UK.
