HOLY CITY: ‘PROLOGUE – OPENING ACTS’
31st Oct 10, 6.30 – 9.30pm, Renfield St Stephen’s, Bath Street, Glasgow
Tonight will be a broad introduction to aspects of our coming session, ‘Acting Up… faith and lifestyle in challenging times’, with a particular look at what insights and forces inspired the believers in their particular context. What were the concerns and issues that touched the early Church most keenly? We’ll be asking if there’s a similarity to what we face today in society…
Workshops
LARRY HURTADO, Professor of New Testament Language, Literature & Theology and Director of the Centre for the Study of Christian Origins at Edinburgh University, will be helping us look at the challenges, choices and changes in the lifestyle of the early churches in Acts.
SUZANNE MATALE of the Zambia Council of Churches, will be focussing on tax and the churches, and linking in with the launch of the joint Church of Scotland/ Christian Aid Scotland Tax Campaign.
FIONA EVANS and WENDY YOUNG belong to two Glasgow communities of folk which try to respond to issues of faith, practice and shared living. They’ll be sharing experiences and stories, and asking what the possibilities are for creatively incarnate lifestyle.
GRAHAM MAULE will be encouraging us to identify the images of God, Jesus & the Spirit that we carry and which inform what we believe and how we act.
JOHN L. BELL & STUART MUIR will be leading a workshop with some old and some new songs, in various parts.
